THE SPACE BETWEEN
Updated: 2 days ago
On transformation, uncertainty and trusting what is becoming before we can see it.
THE SPACE BETWEEN WHO WE WERE AND WHO WE ARE BECOMING
I think one of the hardest parts of transformation is not the letting go.
It’s the waiting.
The space after you’ve released what no longer fits, but before the next chapter has fully revealed itself.
The void.
Many of us are conditioned to believe that if we can’t see what’s next, something must be wrong. That we should have more clarity. More certainty. More direction.
But nature tells a different story.
The dragonfly spends most of its life underwater as a nymph. While it lives beneath the surface, it has no concept of flight. It cannot imagine the sky because everything it knows exists in water.
Yet all the while, a hidden transformation is taking place.
One day, something within it responds to a deeper calling. It climbs from the water, sheds the form that carried it this far, and begins the process of unfolding its wings.
What moves me most about this metaphor is that the dragonfly doesn’t know what it is becoming while it is still underwater. The transformation is already underway long before it can see the outcome.
Many of us are there right now.
No longer who we were. Not yet fully who we are becoming.
Standing between identities.Between timelines.Between versions of ourselves.
And maybe the invitation is not to force clarity, but to trust the process.
To trust that not all growth is visible.
To trust that what feels like uncertainty may actually be incubation.
To trust that the emotions, grief, endings and questions we’re moving through are not obstacles to our evolution, but part of the very process unfolding it.
The dragonfly uses the water of its old life to unfurl its wings.
Maybe what you’ve lived through is not holding you back.
Maybe it is becoming the very thing that teaches you how to fly.
