On awakening as an inward journey of clearing what obscures our own knowing and returning to the truth of who we are.
THE GREAT AWAKENING IS A RETURN TO YOURSELF
We often imagine awakening as something that takes us somewhere else.
Higher. Further. Beyond the life we are already living.
But what if the deeper movement is not upward at all.
What if it is inward.
A return to ourselves beneath the conditioning, expectations, old stories and identities we have accumulated along the way.
So much of our lives can be spent looking outside ourselves for direction. We search for the right answer, the right path, the next sign or the thing that will finally tell us who we are and where we are meant to go.
But there comes a point when the direction changes.
Instead of continuing to search outward, we begin to listen inward.
We start noticing what no longer feels true. We become aware of the beliefs and patterns we have carried that were never really ours. We recognize where fear has been making our decisions, where old stories have kept us small, and where we have learned to override the quieter knowing within us.
Awakening, then, becomes less about acquiring something new and more about clearing away what has been obscuring what was already there.
The mind becomes quieter.
The body becomes something we listen to rather than something we override.
Our intuition becomes less of a fleeting whisper and more of a relationship we learn to trust.
And gradually, life begins to be lived from a different place.
Not because we have figured everything out.
Not because uncertainty disappears.
But because we are no longer asking the outside world to tell us who we are.
This kind of evolution can be surprisingly ordinary.
You may still wake up in the same home. Move through the same relationships.
Drive the same roads. Live a life that, from the outside, appears largely unchanged.
And yet internally, everything may be different.
You are carrying less of what was never yours to hold.
You are making choices from a deeper relationship with yourself.
You are becoming more willing to trust what you know, even before you can see where it will lead.
And maybe this is what expansion actually asks of us.
Not to escape our humanity, but to inhabit it more fully.
Not to become someone else, but to clear enough of the way that we can live as who we already are.
There is nowhere you need to go to find what you are looking for.
The path keeps leading you back to yourself.
